Following a series of articles about iPhone in Poland and media buzz about it on the Polish part of the site, I decided to do something more productive. This time it is inspired by HTC's release of Touch Pro and S740 models. One feature WM Professional and second WM Standard. I decided to run my Windows Mobile emulator on both systems and try to do a small side by side comparison.
I must start with saying that I'm a long time user of Windows Mobile Professional, beginning with PocketPC including Windows 2003SE. I've never used a real WM based smartphone, so if someone notices any issues with this text, please contact me.
Maybe I'll also need to start with some major differences between those two systems. Windows Mobile Professional is the system that all PDAs with touch screen use. If you use a Windows Mobile (not Windows CE) based navigation system, that's probably Windows Mobile 5 or 6. You can also be still using Windows Mobile 2003, but there are only a few of these devices left on the market. These devices often don't have any other input form except for 2-4 buttons and a touch screen. Windows Mobile Professional is used by such devices as Touch Pro.
Windows Mobile Standard on the other hand is designed for smartphone devices. These are devices that are a bit closer to typical mobile phones than to PDAs. They don't have a touch screen, come with a numeric keyboard, 4-way directional keys and a few buttons. An example might be HTC S740.
I started by running Windows Mobile 6 emulator images without any modifications. I'll use QVGA in both cases.
