Windows Mobile 6: Installing Office on SD card

Recently I bought a new 2400mAh battery for my HTC BlueAngel and it was a good point to reinstall the device from scratch and configure everything so that I would be happy about it. I grabbed one of the Windows Mobile 6.1 ROMs and installed it.

One of the things I noticed is that it no longer had Office Mobile installed. Luckily I found one on Microsoft site. It needs to be installed on the main disk ... and it took around 10MB of my main disk space - which is a lot for the good old Blue Angel. So I decided to do something about it - and moved some of the files to SD card successfully. I installed Office Mobile using the MSI file and then the CAB file. Then I created a directory called \Storage Card\Program Files\OfficeMobile. Then I copied the following files in there:
  • office.dll
  • officeres.96.dll
  • officeres.dll
  • officeres.dll.0409.mui
  • ppt.exe
  • pptres.96.dll
  • pptres.dll
  • pptres.dll.0409.mui
  • pword.exe
  • pxl.exe
  • pxl2xls.dll
  • pxlfile.dll
  • xls2pxl.dll
Next I needed to modify shortcuts in the Windows Start Menu. This can easily be done in any file explorer such as Total Commander for PocketPC.

This way I was able to save over 5MB of disk space and it seems that Office is working without any problems. Other Windows applications also do not seem to complain about anything.
